Square Wild - Otherling (2026)

"Otherling" is the long-awaited debut studio album by Manchester-based British band Square Wild, independently released on August 24, 2026. Work on the album took four years, amid constant obstacles: recording began in 2022, when their Manchester rehearsal space was hastily closed for demolition, forcing drum tracks to be recorded in a rush. Subsequent sessions were conducted remotely from various countries and cities. The album's official live launch took place on October 17, 2026, at The Bread Shed in Manchester.

The word "Otherling" in the album title refers to a being or phenomenon that lies outside conventional definitions and standards. The musicians were often told that their work was "too weird" and didn't fit into any existing musical community. Instead of trying to fit into a format, the band made this otherness their greatest pride—the album is entirely devoted to the theme of "outsiders" who feel out of place but find unique strength in it.
Critics from reputable publications (such as Echoes And Dust and Loud Women) enthusiastically greeted the release, calling it one of the strongest debuts of 2026. This entire musical cocktail is held together by the powerful, incredibly flexible vocals of Lucy Shevchuk, who effortlessly shifts from a gentle whisper to an aggressive delivery. The final climax of this "mad show" is the track "Masquerade," which combines all of the band's musical tricks into one.
