The trio of musicians The Demonstration Tapes — Lars, Pedro, and Fredrik — previously played together in the band Sister Sonny. A few years ago, they discovered that each of them was independently writing songs tied to different American states. From that coincidence grew an ambitious idea: to write and release one song for every U.S. state, timed to the 250th anniversary of American independence in 2026.
The first part of the project, the album First Amendment, came out in 2025. It featured 14 tracks about 14 states, including Texas, New York, and Oklahoma. The second part, SECOND AMENDMENT, is tied to the anniversary year itself. To build anticipation, the band released three singles over the summer: The New Jersey Turnpike, Clean Cut Connecticut, and New Mexico Loosin’. The full album is released on September 25th on vinyl and on streaming platforms.
The musicians consider themselves seasoned players with their feet planted firmly in music history. They grew up in an era when American culture — music, film, literature — served as a guiding light. Their relationship with the US has always been two-sided: marked by friction, yet fed by respect, curiosity, and love. They meet the country’s anniversary with a gesture of their own — songs that pair admiration with “a healthy dose of ambivalence.”
