Polish composer and visual artist Mariusz Szypura has created a project that radically reimagines the music of Frédéric Chopin: the piano is removed, and the listener is left only with the “residue”, what remains once the central instrument is taken away. The work was made with musicians from the worlds of rock and experimental music: Adrian Utley (Portishead), Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth), David Pajo (Slint), Joey Waronker (Atoms For Peace, Beck), Gail Ann Dorsey (David Bowie), John McEntire (Tortoise), John Stanier (Battles), Jim O’Rourke and others.
The release is split into two discs (and two vinyl records). Each part stands on its own and can be played separately, but both can also be played at the same time, layering over each other for an especially deep, immersive listening experience.
