The album Perdu dans un rêve (“Lost in a Dream”) is the result of seven years of research by a trio of drums and cymbals, bass clarinet and electric guitar. The musicians treat this lineup as a sonic field freed from habitual forms and temporal constraints. They aim at an informal, non-representational improvised music grounded in interiority and attention to silence. The idea of a musical gesture unbound from any predetermined idiom draws on Arnold Schoenberg and the painter Wassily Kandinsky. The program includes original compositions and collective improvisations alongside pieces by Paul Motian and Claudio Monteverdi’s Lamento d’Arianna, forming a constellation that resists genealogies and genres. Repertory becomes psychic matter here: contraction gives way to expansion, density to void, memory to abstraction. Meaning does not precede sound but arises from the encounter of sounds, silence and imagination.
