The label Naya Beat, which bridges South Asian musical tradition and the dancefloor, is releasing its second collection of new, exclusive remixes. The idea is to reimagine the classic disco 12" remix format with a South Asian twist: some of the most exciting names in dance music were given access to the label’s rich catalogue.
The four remixes break down as follows. The California duo Woolfy vs Projections (Permanent Vacation), heirs to West Coast balearic, turned “Nainan Da Pyar De Gaya” (Turbotito & Ragz featuring Piya Malik of Say She She) into an infectious electro funk track. The label’s founders Turbotito & Ragz reworked “Going Out Hoping To See You” by the Greek duo Boys’ Shorts, adding vocals by Australian Indian actress Pallavi Sharda. Thomaas Banks of the British duo Psychemagik created a dark wave version of “Tu Aaja” by Pinky Ann Rihal, a pioneer of British Asian new wave. Dino Soccio, head of the Los Angeles disco-edits label Pleasure of Love, made a smooth, extended disco remix of the recent classic “Pawa!” by Asha Puthli and Say She She.
The release is aimed at DJs and collectors: it was cut to vinyl by multi-Grammy-nominated Frank Merritt at The Carvery, and comes in a beautifully designed 12" disco sleeve with a centre label cutout.
Tracklist:
01-01 Turbotito, Ragz, Piya Malik - Nainan Da Pyar De Gaya (Woolfy vs Projections Remix) [5:00]
