Dutch singer-songwriter Mariecke Borger releases her third album, Unravel, in 2026, marking a new chapter in her musical life. For twenty years she has refined a sound at the intersection of alternative folk, Americana and intimate storytelling, from the Veluwe woods to the stage of Amsterdam’s famed Paradiso. She is now based in Kampen.
The album’s ten songs found her on their own during a brief, inspired period one autumn, as she sat at the piano. Over the following year she shaped them together with her husband, Floris de Vries, who co-produced and recorded the record. The title Unravel serves as the thread running through the songs: in them, Borger traces the path that has led her to the present moment and hints at what lies ahead.
The album moves with ease from brighter, hopeful compositions to restrained, melancholic reflections. This interplay of light and longing defines its character: a nuanced blend of folk, Americana and intimate storytelling. It is a warm, reflective record of quiet international calibre that captures Borger as a songwriter and musician with clarity and depth.
