Sulaf - ABA ابّا. (2026) [Hi-Res]

BAND/ARTIST: Sulaf

Sudanese singer and oud player Sulaf, whose career is rising fast, has lived through exile and life as a refugee. That experience shaped her album ABA. The music blends the roots of Nubian music with modern electronic sound. Sulaf made the record with producer Maxime Kosinetz, known for his work with Imarhan, Tinariwen and Gruff Rhys. The lyrics draw on the Sufi poetry of her great-grandfather; through them she speaks of loss, identity and resilience, carrying the spirit of Sudan across its borders. Kosinetz plays synthesizers and handles effects, while Emile Larroche adds synthesizers and takes part in production. The rhythm and arrangements are filled out by percussionist Amar Chaoui, bassist and keyboardist Maxime Daoud, and guitarist Adrian Edeline; the violin is played by Christelle Lassort, and Léonard Desarthe did the violin programming. Sulaf herself plays oud on the last three tracks (8, 9, 10).
