The international psychoacoustic trio Yayoba — Paul Wilson, Jani Hirvonen and Johannes Schebler — has released the album Matkat. The title comes from the Finnish word for "journeys" or "trips," capturing both the questing spirit of the music and its cosmic, lysergic ethos. The members live in different countries and have each spent years in the most shape-shifting corners of the experimental underground, and the creative chemistry that has formed between them over long distance is clearly audible on the record.
The 14 tracks span the full range of the group's surrealist world-building: lunar mycological séances, metallic woodwind silhouettes, pointillist plasmatic soups, ethnographic soundtracks to imagined sci-fi, spore-harvesting reveries and deep-space starbirths. Despite this omnivorous palette, the material shares one smelted, bioluminescent quality, as if stewed in a single collective vat of molten alien ore. The album plays like a dizzying swap-meet of gene-spliced electronics, stalagmite drip, asteroid dust and black-market fungus, forged from circuits and glass and cast into the cloud to gleam and confound.

1. Yayoba - Wachsendes Wurzelwerk
