Michelle Velvin - To Let the Light In (2026)

BAND/ARTIST: Michelle Velvin

New Zealand harpist and composer Michelle Velvin, an established figure in Aotearoa's music scene for over a decade, has released her debut solo album, "To Let The Light In," via Oro records. The album presents a blend of folk and classical music, enriched with poetic and fairytale-like themes. The lyrical framework draws from the poetry of Ursula Bethell, Robin Hyde, Genevieve Davidson, and Michelle Velvin herself. The recording features contributions from musicians Louisa Williamson, Johnny Lawrence, Peter Maunder, Luka Reardon, and Genevieve Davidson, with mixing by Warwick Donald and mastering by Mike Gibson. Rooted in local landscapes, folklore, and intricate harp arrangements, the project balances whimsical playfulness with deeper, darker emotional explorations.
