Composer John Williams wrote the score for *Jaws 2*, directed by Jeannot Szwarc and released by Universal on June 16, 1978. It was the first sequel score of Williams’s professional career; it was recorded at the 20th Century-Fox recording studio over four days in March 1978. Although critics gave the film mixed reviews, they singled out John Williams’s score for praise. To create a fresh sound, the orchestra used an expanded lineup: five harps, four pianos, two guitars, and a saxophone. Rather than relying heavily on themes from the original film, Williams created new material, including an upbeat sailing theme and a finale with an Americana flavor. In 2026, Geffen/UMe released a new mix of the soundtrack made from the original 16-track master recordings, which were discovered during preparations for the first film’s 50th anniversary. Mike Matessino restored and remastered the collection. It became available digitally on October 2, 2026, alongside Intrada’s complete two-CD edition.
