The album Ghosts And Others by avant-garde composer and media artist Phill Niblock stands as a profound exploration of space, time, and acoustic environments, crafted at the intersection of field recordings and conceptual cinematic editing. The sonic tapestry relies on sharp contrasts and gradual evolutions: ceremonial Chinese percussion from Hong Kong funeral processions clangs alongside car horns, passing trains, and the ambient sounds of a Soviet-era collective farm in Hungary. Locomotives act as metaphorical gateways dividing the composition into shifting dynamic segments. It is a landmark release within drone, ambient, and acoustic ecology, capturing the fleeting resonance between humanity, nature, and the modern industrial landscape.
