Peaks - Cladach / Mullach (2026)

BAND/ARTIST: Peaks

The Scottish duo Peaks, formed by violinist George Smith and cellist Duncan Strachan (founding members of the Maxwell Quartet), releases their debut album Cladach / Mullach on Chamber Music Scotland. The record is a two-part, 50-minute conceptual suite inspired by the folk tales, legends, and rugged landscapes of the Western Isles of Scotland. The album features guest vocals by acclaimed piper Brìghde Chaimbeul.

The sonic framework of the release merges modern classical, Celtic folk, post-minimalism, and electronic music. The musicians blend acoustic string arrangements of violin and cello with Gaelic singing, oral storytelling, and synthetic soundscapes, recontextualizing the region's traditional heritage through a contemporary postmodern lens. The official album launch takes place at the Piandrome venue in Edinburgh.
