Live Bust (1971) is a raw, energetic, and compelling live document of the American scene at the turn of the decade. Formed in New York State, the Colwell Winfield Blues Band is remembered for its vibrant performance at the 1969 Woodstock festival and its debut album, Cold Wind Blues (1968). Recorded at the height of their touring, Live Bust demonstrates the transformation of classic Chicago blues into a complex, jammy blues-rock with a rich horn section and proto-prog elements. In contrast to the restrained studio sessions, here the band reveals itself in the form of lengthy, improvisational numbers with expressive solos and a powerful rhythmic delivery.
