Swiss saxophonist and composer Nino Wenger created the album First Light, released on the Laika label. The ten compositions featured on the record serve as an artistic reflection of a year spent living in New York City, condensing urban energy, late-night concert moments, and street impressions into a refined musical statement.
The core ensemble, the Nino Wenger Quartet, features the leader on alto saxophone alongside pianist Leon Hattori, double bassist Tabea Kind, and drummer Alex Parzhuber. Compositionally, the tracks balance structured melodic motifs with expansive room for solo Jazz improvisations. The album's production prioritizes instrumental transparency and chamber-like clarity, highlighting the dialogue between the saxophone, piano, and rhythm section within the realm of Jazz and Fusion.
