Smidley, the musical project formed by Foxing frontman Conor Murphy, has evolved from a side venture into a fully realized ensemble. The band's third album, Murphy Horse, documents a phase of emotional maturity, personal stability, and shifted priorities in the artist's life.
Sonically, the record marks a departure from Smidley's earlier intimate Indie Folk style toward expansive, multi-layered arrangements. The tracks blend elements of Indie Pop, Shoegaze, Tropicalia, and 80s Rock. The dramatic opening track "Corpse Flower" transitions into the upbeat single "Capstone", featuring Grammy-winning artist Lucy Dacus. Songs like the title track "Murphy Horse" and the vibrant "Love In Every Direction" address the struggle between career ambition and personal relationships. For Conor Murphy, the release serves as a milestone of personal grounding and artistic renewal.
