33emybw - Amalgamate (2026)

Shanghai dynamo Wu Shanmin aka 33EMYBW generates whirlwinds of angular, insectoid rhythm and shards of piquant electronic melody for host body SVBKVLT, bolstered by a calmer Mark Fell remix and club-ready sideproject rework.

Ten years since her early work caused a cult stir in weird club circles, ‘Amalgamate’ advances on 33EMYBW’s early templates with a ravishing fervour that prompts ever stranger, perplexing details within her unusual rhythm programming and tonal language.

Call it footwork for 10-legged cyborgs or Chinese flashcore, whatever, 33EMYBW dances to a different beat on each turn; whipping a gamelan-type palette into a sort of nervy, hyper jersey club on ‘Logos’, decimating makina melody and P-funk bass into squashed 8-bit noise on ‘I CUT’, and hyperglyding a sort of quasi-ambient-footwork in standout ‘金光 The Golden Elixir’.

At her fiercest, the title tune recalls the ‘00s electronica pointillism of The Flashbulb, and ‘降虫会 Séance of Bugs’ spurts her strangest synthesis of tradition and futurity beside the theatric choral dramaturgy of ‘Photovoltaic’. Fresh from latest missive, Mark Fell settles down ‘Logos’ to a stereo-pinging call-and-response between chattering percussive systems, and Björk producers, sideproject reshape ‘Photovoltaic’ to pendulous western club standards.
