Portraits of England is a selection of the best 20th century English clarinet music. The program opens with the beautiful piece by Clarence Raybould The Wistful Shepherd. Just for the second movement of the Sonatina by Joseph Horovitz this album is worth it.
Such a truly beautiful and inspired melancholic and poetic melody represent the “English sound” of 20th century British music. Representative pieces for the clarinet by composers like Malcolm Arnold, Ralph Vaughan Williams, John Ireland, Gerald Finzi and Joseph Horowitz. No better duo could perform this program as Jonathan Parking and Sebastian Stanley.
