American guitarist and singer Robert Nighthawk was a pivotal figure who shaped the sound of Chicago Blues and directly influenced icons like Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf. His early recordings from 1937–1938, released under the name Robert Lee for the Bluebird label, laid the foundation for his virtuoso technique. The musician's signature style—single-string slide guitar playing filled with deep emotional expression—became a benchmark that helped define the transition from rural Delta Blues to the electrified Chicago style.
