The phenomenal box-office and musical triumph of James Cameron's historical drama Titanic led to record-breaking sales for its official soundtrack album, which primarily featured film score and modern classical instrumental arrangements by composer James Horner. Capitalizing on the widespread success of the movie and its flagship single performed by Celine Dion, Sony Classical and Horner produced a follow-up compilation titled Back to Titanic to coincide with the film's home video release in late summer 1998. The album brought together previously unreleased orchestral excerpts, Celtic folk recordings that served as stylistic inspiration during production, and a special radio-style edit of "My Heart Will Go On" featuring movie dialogue. This companion release expanded upon the original soundtrack, cementing Horner's cultural impact in the late 1990s.
