Pinturas y Expresiones (1980) is a true "hidden grail" of South American symphonic progressive rock from the late 1970s and early 1980s. Recorded by the Argentine band Agnus during the brutal censorship of the military regime, the album is distinguished by its incredibly bright, pastoral, and sublime character. The music on this release draws heavily on the aesthetics of the Italian school of progressive rock (Rock Progressivo Italiano), with the addition of Latin American folk flavor and academic symphonic style. The album's centerpiece is the multi-movement suite of the same name, Pinturas y Expresiones, which showcases the high level of polyphony by composer Luis Sáez.
