Datashock - Kräuter der Provinz (2018)

Kräuter der Provinz (2018) is one of the most cohesive and vibrant albums by the German avant-garde collective Datashock, released by the Hamburg label Bureau B. The album's title ("Provencal Herbs") ironically plays on the band's blend of local folkloric identity and psychedelic herbalism. Operating as a loose musical commune with a mobile lineup, Datashock continues the tradition of the radical German underground of the 1970s. On this album, the band abandons the chaotic noise storm of their early cassette releases in favor of a more structured, yet utterly wild, hybrid of krautrock, free-wheeling folk, and ritual psychedelia.
