Manu Dibango's second studio album, released in 1971 on the French label Fiesta, a year before the international breakthrough of "Soul Makossa" (1972). It was recorded with his regular collaborator, guitarist and vocalist Jo Tongo, alongside an expanded backing group including Ben's Ndiné on drums and percussion, Don Gonzalo on flute, Willy Ekwe and Seydou Yaffa on tumba and guitar, and Jeff Scheffer and Alain Hatot on saxophones.
The tracklist mixes Dibango's own compositions ("Soma Loba," "Lily," several co-written with Tongo) with covers: "Idiba" and "Oa Na Mba" rework songs by Cameroonian musician and writer Francis Bebey — Bebey's original "Idiba" (1970) is generally considered one of the earliest makossa-oriented records ever released. The album also carries an early version of "Senga," later re-recorded for the US-issued "Makossa Man."
Musically, the record leans closer to the Latin/Congolese-inflected rumba and soukous sounds circulating in the region at the time than to the Afrobeat-funk direction Dibango would become internationally known for. It was repressed on Fiesta in 1973 (catalog 360.045) and remains a sought-after vinyl release.
