American guitarist and American folk-raga pioneer Peter Walker, who initially gained prominence in the late 1960s through his recordings for Vanguard, studies under Indian classical masters, and role as musical director for Timothy Leary, returned to active creative work following the rediscovery of his music by Tompkins Square in 2006. Having spent decades residing in Woodstock—a small town with a complex countercultural history explored by Barney Hoskyns—Walker maintained deep connections to the local independent scene, participating in tribute releases for Karen Dalton alongside Sharon Van Etten, Patty Griffin, and Lucinda Williams, as well as recording for Third Man Records.
This ongoing artistic phase culminated in the production of the collaborative psychedelic album Lachesis/Clotho/Atropos. The release captures an expansive super-session alongside Harmony Rockets (a side project of Mercury Rev), featuring guitarist Nels Cline (Wilco), drummer Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth), and musicians Jesse Chandler and Martin Keith. The material merges traditional folk roots, psychedelic rock elements, and freeform improvisation, embodying the contemplative, mythologized atmosphere of historical Woodstock.
