DMZ's only full-length studio album (1978) is a key record of the Boston punk scene of the late 1970s and an important bridge between 1960s garage rock and the first wave of American punk. Formed by vocalist and organist Jeff Conolly (later to found the iconic The Lyres), DMZ distinguished themselves from their New York and London contemporaries by their adherence to the aggressive, raw sound of '60s garage rock. Produced by Floyd Mutrux, the album captured the band's frenzied energy, becoming a classic of the American underground.
