In the 1960s, the Canadian province of Quebec developed a unique local music scene where Anglo-American rock 'n' roll and beat were reinterpreted in French under the yé-yé movement. One of the most striking and uncompromising groups of this phenomenon was the Montreal-based band Les Sinners. Despite the refined background of its members, the ensemble stood out for its raw, aggressive, and dangerous sound, blending R&B, garage rock, and fuzz guitar effects with early proto-punk elements. Their debut album Sinerism became a landmark release of the French-Canadian garage wave. The reissue of this record, expanded with tracks from the album Sinnerismes, captures a rare chapter of North American music where the energy of garage punk intersected with 1960s French-language pop culture.
