American guitarist Earl Hooker, a student of slide master Robert Nighthawk and cousin to John Lee Hooker, holds a unique place in the history of Chicago blues due to his intricate technique and innovative approach to electric guitar tone. As one of the earliest blues musicians to incorporate the wah-wah pedal into his setup, he forged an expressive guitar style that resonated through Muddy Waters' classic recording of "You Shook Me" and deeply influenced later hard rock acts, including Led Zeppelin. This compilation highlights his prolific period between 1964 and 1967 recorded for the Keuka label. Centered on his instrumental achievements, the release features collaborations with lap steel guitarist Freddie Roulette along with inventive covers of blues standards, demonstrating his masterly slide execution and foundational contribution to electric blues.
