Lynn Wright - Before The Sinking Plains (2026)

Berlin-based composer Lynn Wright - who's written extensively for film and television - arrives on Miasmah with a contemplative solo full-length that buries dreamy pop and folk references in dark, post-classical soundscapes and celestial drones.

Beginning his career as a session musician in the '90s, Wright moved towards more experimental spaces in the '00s, working with contemporary dance troupes, improv groups and avant-rock outfits. He found his groove a little later on, recording two improvised records with Swans' Algis Kizys and Norman Westberg and embarking on a successful scoring career. 'Before the Sinking Plains' provided a way for Wright to reflect on a "long neurological illness", materialising from guitar loops he would make each morning before letting them play as each day unfolded.

Eventually, Wright began to flesh out the loops, adding more and more elements until songs emerged; but these songs aren't quite as they seem. Nowhere near as rock-inspired as his earlier work, they're buoyed by almost weightless traces of Americana, cinematic swells and Wright's own dreamy wordless vocals. It's all expertly produced and intricately arranged, as you'd expect from someone who's spent decades in the industry.
