“I wanted to tie a little bouquet, and this is what we’ve put together from 21 songs.” Under this theme, Austrian soprano Miriam Kutrowatz and Munich-based pianist, lieder accompanist, and cabaret artist Andreas Fröschl present a selection from Richard Strauss’s lieder repertoire. In addition to “floral” songs such as “Ich wollt ein Sträusslein binden” and the “Mädchenblumen,” Op. 22, the program includes works such as “Rosenband,” “Amor,” and “Säusle, liebe Myrthe,” as well as the eponymous “Three Songs of Ophelia,” Op. 67, in which Richard Strauss develops a distinctly more expressive musical language. The program is rounded out by other well-known songs such as “Allerseelen,” “Ständchen,” and “Nichts.” With their debut album, Miriam Kutrowatz and Andreas Fröschl explore the extraordinary stylistic diversity of Richard Strauss’s art of song.
