The Oystermen are a trumpet-and-guitar Americana band from Brooklyn that knows how to bring the party! Featuring Jon Schneider on drums, David Silva on bass, Eddie Joe Antonio on trumpet, Henry Plotnick on piano, and Ol’ Stanley on vocals and rhythm guitar, their live shows are split between originals and covers of the old-timey songs they love. In July 2026, they released their first full-band album, called Darn Tootin’.
About the song from Darn Tootin’, “Married to my Axe,” Ol’ Stanley comments, “This is a song about how good it feels to be hoofing it, schlepping, grinding it out and doing what you have to do to play music.”
It certainly communicates that. Opening with an infectious, funky, New Orleans beat, driving guitar, and rolling piano, Ol’ Stanley sings, “I’ve been ridin’ around, all over town with this trumpet on my back/ Everybody I know, wherever I go, says son you’re practically married to that axe.”
His rough vocal and dry humor, especially on the last verse about temptation and staying married to his axe, is one of the highlights of the song. But the other high points have to be the trumpet and piano solos that carry the song into high gear as the rhythmic steam engine pushes and prods Antonio and Plotnick to bluesy greatness.
