"Land of the Neon Sun" is the debut solo studio album by Houston-based singer, songwriter, and activist Kam Franklin, best known as the lead vocalist for the Gulf Coast soul band The Suffers. Developing the project over nearly a decade, Franklin independently financed the recording through a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign that raised nearly $25,000 from 225 backers. The record was released on August 28, 2026, via her independent label Homegirl Island.
The album was tracked over two years during recording sessions split between Nashville and Houston. Franklin co-produced the project alongside Americana artist Margo Price, with additional production contributed by Bhi Bhiman. The recording features collaborative appearances by songwriters Kevin Morby, guitarist Jackie Venson, and the Bayou City Comeback Chorus. Vinyl mastering and pressing preparations were conducted locally at 610 Record Manufacturing in Houston.
Sonically, the arrangements blend acoustic guitar foundations—an instrument Franklin took up in recent years—with synth-bass, electronic textures, and electric guitars.
