American musician A.S. Wilson, leader of the Providence-based outfit Convinced Friend, presents the sophomore full-length album "Nowhere Songs," recorded at Big Nice Studio with returning producer Bradford Krieger (Horse Jumper of Love, Friendship). The writing process was sparked by upcoming fatherhood and the ongoing environmental decline of his hometown of Houma, Louisiana—a sinking oilfield town facing coastal erosion. Moving away from the solo nature of their debut release, "Nowhere Songs" represents a collaborative band effort featuring guitarist Nate Halda, bassist Mike Dantowitz, and drummer Casey Belisle, pushing the project toward a heavier, more sharp-edged indie rock and alt-country sound. Lyrically, A.S. Wilson explores intimate character studies of the working-class people he grew up with, addressing themes of displacement, hurricane devastation, and personal exile while adopting his native Southern drawl. Recorded mostly live in a single day, the album merges indie rock, slowcore, and alt-country into a poignant portrait of small-town resilience and bittersweet homecoming.
