British acoustic ensemble Crooked Oak, formed in the early 1970s around songwriter and vocalist Steve Evans (Steve Evans) alongside musicians Paul Bagley (Paul Bagley) and Jim Fraser (Jim Fraser), has delivered the album From Little Acorns Grow. Having honed their signature sound across the British folk club circuit (folk), the North East group prioritized clear melodic phrasing, unpretentious performance, and emotional sincerity over complex ornamentation.
The record's narrative explores themes of labor migration, working-class hardships, personal loss, and quiet resilience. Musically, the release merges traditional Irish and British tunes with original compositions by Steve Evans and contemporary acoustic folk. The album's production relies on warm acoustic arrangements rooted in the regional folk heritage of Great Britain.
