Colombian duo Jaguar, formed by Europe-based musicians Paulo and Raúl, developed a unique sound that translates the traditional rhythms of Colombia and the Caribbean onto modern dance floors. Following their collaboration in Madremonte, the artists fused the acoustic heritage of cumbia, salsa, bolero, porro, and champeta with the raw energy of street-level picó sound systems, African guitar licks, drum machines, and touches of post-disco, Brit-funk, and global bass. Their debut album operates as an alternate history of Colombian rave, a movement suppressed in the 1990s by civil conflict and industry corruption. The duo's infectious dance grooves stand alongside socially conscious lyrics addressing poverty, street violence, systemic inequality, and the hope for social unity.
