Formed in 2007 by songwriter Serge Yared and producer Fadi Tabbal, the Beirut-based independent project The Incompetents served as a pivotal hub for the Lebanese underground music scene for over a decade. Centered around Tunefork Studios, the project constantly reshaped its lineup, collaborating with numerous local musicians, including members of Postcards (Julia Sabra, Pascal Semerdjian, and Marwan Tohme), as well as artists Abed Kobeissy, Amine Daher, Malek Rizkallah, Maya Aghniadis, Paed Conca, and Stéphane Rives. Visual artist Alfred Tarazi shaped the band's identity throughout its existence.
The nineteen-track vinyl anthology A Temporary Convergence Of Interests [The Disgruntled Best Of] captures the complete arc of the band's output from 2008 to 2020—spanning from their debut More Songs From The Victorious City to their final record Pretium Doloris, alongside rare archival cuts. The group's dynamic sound seamlessly crosses boundaries between post-punk, art rock, folk, improvisation, and spoken-word, anchored by Serge Yared's acerbic, self-deprecating lyrics exploring the complexities of everyday life.
