The jazz quartet featuring saxophonist Co Streiff, trumpeter Russ Johnson, double bassist Christian Weber, and drummer Gerry Hemingway has released the album Oracle. The creative partnership between Streiff and Johnson, which originated in 2004, was forged through joint projects across Europe and New York, drawing on deep performance experience alongside figures like pianist Irène Schweizer.
Following their 2012 debut In Circles, which embraced the keyboard-less avant-garde jazz and free jazz traditions of Ornette Coleman and Don Cherry, the group engaged in annual European tours before taking an extended hiatus. In 2019, drummer Gerry Hemingway joined the lineup. Tracked live across various stops on their 2023 European tour, Oracle captures an intuitive interplay between the two horn leaders and the rhythm section, built upon two decades of shared musical history.
