A new prodigy has emerged in Afrofuturism. With over 10 million streams to date, young rising star MOONGA K. has attracted attention from various media outlets such as AFROPUNK and Rolling Stone. He has released his latest album, "SOULWAVE 2153," which develops a new groove by drawing on various forms of black music such as funk, soul, reggae, electro, and zamrock!
Incorporating funk, psychedelia, soul, pop, reggae, zamrock, electronica, disco, classical, and various African music genres, "SOULWAVE 2153" tells the story of a time-traveling funk broadcast sent from 2153 to the 1970s and received in present-day Africa. The songs are coded with memories of culture, identity, and resistance, and as the album progresses, its groove awakens the power dormant within people, time gradually distorts, and the past and future merge through rhythm. Ultimately, funk is portrayed as a "means of transcending time" and a "means of survival."
The project's philosophy revolves around the question, "What if the future remembered us through 'joy'?" Through Moonga's raw yet delicate songwriting, and co-production with Ryan Marshall and Matthew Garton, the aim is to bring listeners the "joy" that is often considered a luxury in modern times.
Influenced by artists such as Stevie Wonder, Janelle Monáe, Sun Ra, and Funkadelic, and featuring Afrofuturistic visuals, this album stands out as a particularly futuristic work within Moonga's ever-evolving catalog.
