Language spanish. In 1979, the Spanish-language single versions of two songs, Chiquitita and I Have A Dream, unexpectedly achieved outstanding success in Latin American countries, where ABBA was already very popular.
At that time, they decided to make a full Spanish-language album specifically for this market, consisting of their greatest hits and two other Latin-tinged, atmospheric songs (Move On and Hasta Manana).
This is how the album Gracias Por La Música was released in January 1980. A married couple who worked for RCA in Argentina were asked to translate the lyrics into Spanish; and in the studio, a Swedish journalist of Spanish origin helped Agnetha and Annifrid with the correct pronunciation (the girls sang the songs to the original musical bases.)
Benny and Björn did not participate in the Spanish work in any way, the mixing and production of the album was entrusted entirely to their sound engineer, Michael B. Tretow.
For this reason, the Spanish version of Move On (Al Andar) differs from the original in that the verse sung by Björn at the beginning is sung by Agnetha in a traditional verse.
In 1992, the album Oro - Grandes Exitos was released in America, which contained all the songs from the 1980 Spanish-language album, plus two songs from the Super Trouper and two from the South American versions of the The Visitors album, and they also "found" the Spanish-language version of Ring Ring recorded in 1973 but never released before.
The original Gracias Por La Música album (CD version) was available in Japan and Argentina until the end of the nineties, but it was a great success not only in Spanish-speaking countries, but also in South Africa outside of Japan.
The 2005 "ABBA - The Complete Studio Recordings" 11-disc box set (containing 133 songs) did not include the Oro material separately, but after the material from the standard discs, all other recordings were included as bonuses, so all 15 songs from Oro can be found on the impressive box set CDs.
In 2014, the Gracias Por La Música album was reissued with a bonus DVD, but the CD does not contain any new material: it contains the recordings that appeared on the Oro - Grandes Exitos album, in a different order.
