Excerpts From a Future Past (2017) is the second release and first full-length studio album by the Swedish band Hällas. The album brought the band widespread recognition in the underground rock scene thanks to its unique blend of retro sounds and conceptual narrative.
The music is inspired by the 1970s (Wishbone Ash, Uriah Heep, Rush, Yes, Blue Öyster Cult). It features dual lead guitar duels, analog synthesizers (Hammond, Mellotron, and Moog organs), a driving rhythm section, and Tommy Alexandersson's distinctive, emotional vocals with a slight Scandinavian accent.
The album presents a unified fantasy-science fiction conceptual story set in an alternate medieval universe.
