Live At The Country Music Hall Of Fame And Museum CMA Theater is the sole live album by Desert Rose Band, capturing the band's farewell concert on October 2, 2022, at the CMA Theater inside the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville. The performance coincided with the grand opening of the museum's Western Edge: The Roots and Reverberations of Los Angeles Country Rock exhibition, tracing the country-rock lineage that Chris Hillman helped originate with The Byrds and the Flying Burrito Brothers.
Nearly a decade after the group had last played together, the surviving members reassembled for the show: Hillman on lead vocals and acoustic guitar, Herb Pedersen, John Jorgenson, JayDee Maness on pedal steel and Steve Duncan on drums, joined by bassist Mark Fain in place of the late Bill Bryson. The set was produced, mixed and mastered by Mick Conley, with the vinyl master prepared by Joe Reagoso.
Reflecting on the night, Hillman called it a special one, saying the band played as though it were one of their finest shows from the early days, and that documenting it for others to hear felt like a blessing. Reviewers who attended, including original producer Paul Worley, described the reunion as note-perfect. The 2LP red-vinyl edition arrived via Friday Music on September 5, 2025, in a gatefold sleeve with an accompanying essay by journalist Randy Lewis; a CD edition followed as well.
The setlist spans the band's entire run — from their debut single, a reworking of the Johnnie & Jack standard "Ashes of Love," through their late-'80s chart-toppers, several Buck Owens covers, a rendition of John Hiatt's "She Don't Love Nobody," and Hillman's earliest solo Byrds composition, "Time Between" — with the bulk of attention falling, per reviewers, on material from the band's 1987 self-titled debut.
