Ensemble Anton Webern - Hommage à Andrei Tarkovsky (1996)

Ensemble Anton Webern - Hommage à Andrei Tarkovsky (1996)
Wien Modern II: Hommage à Andrei Tarkovsky is a recording of a live concert held at the Vienna Musikverein in October 1991 to honor the legacy of the late Soviet film director. The Wien Modern festival, founded by Claudio Abbado, included this performance in a series documenting significant contemporary works. The program brings together four compositions of European modernism written by Luigi Nono, György Kurtág, Beat Furrer, and Wolfgang Rihm. Luigi Nono's orchestral masterpiece dedicated to the director takes center stage, utilizing seven different spatial choruses to explore microtonal textures. Alongside this, the program includes Kurtág's vocal cycle set to Beckett's final text, a delicate chamber piece by Furrer, and a concluding choral work by Rihm. This release fills the gap between the first and third volumes of Abbado's extensive series preserving the history of modern classical music.
