Musician and performer Rainbow Chan is preparing the August release of her third full-length album, “The Bridal Lament.” The project originated as a solo theatrical performance staged at major Australian festivals, including the Sydney Festival and OzAsia, drawing deeply from the artist's Weitou heritage—the indigenous settlers of Hong Kong.
At the core of the concept is a reimagining of the traditional pre-marital ritual known as the "bridal lament," where young brides publicly sang and wept before leaving their families. Rainbow Chan transforms these ancestral songs of grief and resilience into contemporary pop music, seamlessly linking ancient rituals with electronic pop, performance art, and narrative storytelling.
