Zopp – Metamorphosis (Demo Mixes and B-Sides) (2022)

The release of "Metamorphosis (Demo Mixes and B-Sides)" (2022) by the British prog-rock project Zopp (led by multi-instrumentalist and composer Ryan Walsham) is an archival collection of the workings of the studio prior to the release of the band's second full-length album, "Dominion" (2023).

Zopp draws on the tradition of the classic Canterbury scene (in the vein of Egg, Soft Machine, Hatfield and the North, and National Health), enriched with complex synthesizer parts, distorted Hammond organ, fuzz bass, and unconventional rhythmic patterns.

The collection includes rough cuts, alt-mixes, early demo versions of tracks that later formed the basis of Dominion, as well as non-album B-sides and eclectic instrumental sketches.

The release represents a transitional period in Zopp's work—from the chamber, intimate sound of their 2020 debut to larger-scale, cinematic, and darker symphonic-prog arrangements.
