The Artis Quartet was founded in 1980 after its members graduated from the Vienna Conservatory. To date, it has recorded over twenty CDs, which have been honored with awards such as the Deutsche Phono-Akademie Prize and the Grand Prix International du Disque.
Webern’s works for string quartet and string trio take us from the late Romantic style of his student years in Vienna, through the expressionist soundscape of his quartet works—composed shortly before World War I—and on to the austerity and serenity of his later music.
