Eduard Leopold Maria Strauss (commonly known as Eduard Strauss II) was an Austrian conductor who dedicated his life to preserving and performing his family's legendary musical heritage.
Lineage: He was the grandson of composer Eduard Strauss I, the great-nephew of Johann Strauss II ("The Waltz King"), and the nephew of Johann Strauss III.Education: He studied composition technique at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna under Franz Schmidt.Musical CareerThe Milestones: He made his conducting debut in 1949. This year was deeply symbolic, marking exactly 50 years since the death of Johann Strauss II and 100 years since the death of Johann Strauss I.Global Outreach: He successfully toured internationally to popularize Viennese music. His 1956 tour of Japan sparked a massive, nationwide "Johann Strauss boom".The Orchestra: In 1966, he organized and became the first chief conductor of the Vienna Johann Strauss Orchestra (Wiener Johann Strauss Orchester).
