Music producer Taz (Zaher Nasr), born in Saudi Arabia, underwent a sonic awakening following his move to Sudan in 2017, where he immersed himself in the local pentatonic soundscapes. This experience shaped his artistic persona, The Unknown Traveler, and laid the groundwork for a signature blend of electronic music, Deserty New Age, and Spacey Ambient. Following a period spent in the Jordanian club scene refining his audio engineering skills, the producer released a 12-track, 40-minute album under the umbrella of the Sudanese Music Project. Moving away from pure sampling of traditional Sudanese classics, Taz embraced synthesis by reimagining the iconic tones of vintage Yamaha PSR and Technics KN2000 keyboards—staples of Sudanese wedding and street music—to construct a futuristic sonic journey merging ambient, regional rhythms, and cosmic themes.
