Surroundings is the debut full-length album by the Italian progressive rock project Lunophone, released in June 2024 on AMS Records.
The album combines the traditions of classic Italian and British progressive rock of the 1970s with a contemporary prog sound. The music intertwines rich synthesizer panoramas (Mellotron, Hammond organ), expressive guitar solos, elements of psychedelia, and melodic art pop. The album's sound evokes associations with Pink Floyd, Porcupine Tree, Camel, and classics of the Italian prog scene (Le Orme, PFM).
Lunophone was founded by musician and multi-instrumentalist Alessandro Rubini. Surroundings is the culmination of several years of meticulous studio work.
The album's concept revolves around human interaction with the surrounding world (both nature and the urban environment), the search for inner balance, reflection, and the perception of time.
The compositions are distinguished by smooth transitions from quiet acoustic ambient to powerful, cinematic rock climaxes with rich polyphony.
