David Moss - Dense Band (2026) [Hi-Res]

BAND/ARTIST: David Moss

To mark the 40th anniversary of the experimental project Dense Band, the label Yatak Records is releasing remastered reissues of two seminal albums by American percussionist and vocalist David Moss — Dense Band (1985) and Full House (1984).

Having studied composition under Bill Dixon, David Moss established himself by the mid-1970s as a central figure in New York’s Downtown scene, art rock, and noise music. In 1984, driven by the desire to combine free improvisation, raw noise, and a danceable groove, he formed the David Moss Dense Band. The project brought together leading icons of the avant-garde, including Fred Frith (who also served as producer), John Zorn, Arto Lindsay, Christian Marclay, Bill Laswell, Wayne Horvitz, Tom Cora, Tenko, and Jules Moss. Blending live electronics, unusual percussion setups, theatrical vocals, and studio wizardry, the group crafted a complex yet rhythmically compelling sound that blurred the boundaries between experimental music and avant-garde pop.
