Alice Springs-based songwriter Charlie Ivan announces his new album 'Of Nothing'. Recorded in Mparntwe (Alice Springs) on Arrernte country by Dylan Young of Way Dynamic, the singles mark the first new music since Ivan's 2024 debut, Where The Dogs Go To Die.
Of Nothing is the second studio album from Charlie Ivan Band, released 7 August 2026 via Bedroom Suck Records — two years on from the 2024 debut Where The Dogs Go To Die. Rather than leaving Central Australia behind, Ivan recorded the album where many of its songs first took shape: in Mparntwe/Alice Springs, on Arrernte Country, during the first week of December 2025, with producer Dylan Young of Way Dynamic (the closing track "Grease House" produced and mixed instead by Michael Beach).
The core lineup pairs Ivan's vocals, keys and guitar with Ned Gaynor on bass and Samuel Sargent on drums and percussion, filled out by additional guitar, percussion and backing vocals from a wider circle of contributors.
Sitting between alternative rock and desert folk, the record is positioned alongside songwriters like Mark Lanegan, Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen and Sharon Van Etten, working through themes of longing, memory, isolation and perseverance across its eleven tracks. Two songs — "Despair and Devotion" and "Fait Accompli" — carry epigraphs drawn from Dylan Thomas and Rudyard Kipling, and the environment of the desert recording sessions is described as inseparable from the finished music itself.
