Steel Train is the third and final self-titled studio album by the American indie rock band Steel Train, founded by frontman, guitarist, and songwriter Jack Antonoff, later a celebrated producer (Taylor Swift, Lana Del Rey, Lorde) and founder of Bleachers. The album was released on June 29, 2010, via Terrible Thrills.
The album is the band's most mature, polished, and dynamic work. Compared to their earlier folk-rock sound, the band emphasizes anthemic, energetic power pop and indie rock of the '80s and '90s, with dense guitar riffs, vibrant synth accents, and Antonoff's emotive vocals. The album's sound draws influences from Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, and The Cure.
The album was also notable for its unique promotional project, Terrible Thrills, Vol. 1, which featured guest female performers (including Scarlett Johansson, Tegan and Sara, and Teja Suominen) covering the album track by track.
