Drummer and founder of Brooklyn's Oneida, Kid Millions has spent two decades as a central figure in New York's experimental music scene, working with artists like Laurie Anderson and Yo La Tengo. His latest project grew out of the archive of little-known guitarist Harry Taussig, whose 1965 private-press album was reissued by Tompkins Square in the mid-2000s and later followed by two new recordings. The label invited Millions to rework this material, and he headed to a studio in Kingston, NY with engineer Matthew Cullen. There, they layered guitars, drums, and organ over Taussig's original recordings, pushing them into denser, more psychedelically warped territory while staying true to the spirit of the source material. Millions describes Taussig's approach as a kind of "fantasia" — free-flowing improvisation unbound by technique — and says he wanted to stretch out those loose, searching moments. The result is less a remix than a standalone work that casts new light on both musicians.
